In-demand striker Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has dashed Liverpool’s hopes of signing him in the January transfer window.

Huntelaar has pledged to see out the campaign at current club Schalke, despite a contract which is due to run out next summer.

The prolific Dutch striker has been a wanted man in recent months, with clubs from England, Italy and Spain linked with trying for a cut-price bargain in the winter transfer window.

Huntelaar has also sent his stock soaring due to a series of fine performances for Schalke in the Champions League this season, netting in both the Ruhr side’s games against English giants Arsenal.

The 29-year-old has been heavily linked with Liverpool, who are desperate for striking reinforcements in January, but he has now confirmed it is not his intention to quit Gelsenkirchen.

"I am continuing at Schalke until the end of the season in any case", said Huntelaar when asked.

And while he did admit to having heard about Liverpool being keen, amongst others, "I heard lots of things", he said, it will not make a difference – he is staying at Schalke.

relatedNewsStory"I have had no contact with any club", said the goal-getter.

"What I say, is that I am staying here until the end of the year to play football."

Huntelaar was not on target for Schalke today, but Huub Stevens’ men did put Werder Bremen to the sword 2-1 in the Bundesliga.

The Ruhr giants are still holding out hope that Huntelaar may sign a new contract before his current deal runs out.
