Celtic have turned down a reported £4.5m bid from Premier League newboys Hull City for striker Gary Hooper, according to the BBC.

The Hoops forward was brought to Celtic Park for just over half the bid value in 2010, but has more than delivered in his three seasons with Neil Lennon’s side.

With 137 games and 82 goals in all competitions to his name, the SPL champions will be keen to realise more than the Tigers’ offer for the former Scunthorpe frontman.

It remains to be seen if newly promoted Hull City will launch a fresh approach for Hooper, who Celtic are valuing at nearly £7m.

The 25-year-old has previously worked under former Southampton manager Nigel Adkins whilst at Scunthorpe, but found his forte when playing in Scotland.

He has been part of two SPL title-winning sides under Lennon, with two Scottish cups thrown into the mix.

Hooper, a former SPL golden boot winner, has been vital to Celtic’s recent success, especially in the Champions League where he scored in both legs of their group stage clash against Spartak Moscow.

And the Loughton-born forward also finished as the club’s leading scorer this season, thanks to his 19 league goals in 32 games.
