Cape Verde have been barred from contesting the next round of World Cup qualifiers for fielding an ineligible player, with Tunisia set to replace them.
It is understood that Cape Verde and Steaua Bucharest defender Fernando Varela is the player deemed to be in breach of FIFA rules.
Varela was sent off during an African group qualifying match against Equatorial Guinea in March and suspended for four games.
The game itself had been awarded to Cape Verde, reportedly because Equatorial Guinea had brought on an ineligible player.

Regardless, Varela came on during Cape Verde's away clash against Tunisia last week, when the visitors won 2-0
That final qualifier has now been awarded to Tunisia 3-0 by default, and it is they who will contest round three.
Varela was considered as having not completed his full ban quota and Cape Verde have suffered as a result.
A FIFA statement today confirmed the sanction for the game played on 7th September, whilst also imposing a CHF6,000 fine on the Cape Verde Football Association.
Cape Verde had been leading Group B after the last Tunisia clash and were set to be seeded for the next round of qualifiers.
