Sweden may have lost their chance of World Cup qualification but coach Erik Hamren could be given a renewed show of faith leading up to Euro 2016.
Hamren's contract is set to run out in January, and last night's playoff exit at the hands of Portugal had many calling for his resignation.
Hamren completed four years in the job earlier this month and the Swedish football association (SvFF) are keen to continue that with a contract extension despite the defeat.
SvFF president Karl-Erik Nilsson told the association's website: "We have established that there is a mutual interest in a continuation and we will discuss it further. But let us digest this defeat first."

Hamren himself was of a similar mind, adding: "Let us mourn this [defeat] first. Then we'll begin discussions and look forward."
Elsewhere, Zlatan Ibrahimovic, scorer of two goals for Sweden last night, claims he will never have a better chance of showing his talents on the world stage.
The Paris Saint-Germain forward had given Sweden the lead at one point, only for Cristiano Ronaldo's hat-trick to undo the Scandinavians' efforts.
"For me, it was probably the last attempt to reach the World Cup with the national team", Ibrahimovic was quoted by Expressen as saying.
"One thing is certain: a World Cup without me is nothing to look at. So it is not worthwhile to wait for the World Cup.
"Unfortunately we met a team that was better. Portugal is better than Sweden, let's face facts."
