Bayer Leverkusen are set to be without impressive winger Sidney Sam against Manchester United in the Champions League on Wednesday evening.

Sam has been in superb form for Leverkusen so far this term, attracting interest from a number of clubs, including Liverpool.

However, Leverkusen coach Sami Hyypia saw the Germany international limp out of Saturday's Bundesliga match against Hertha Berlin.

And the Finnish coach has explained the situation with Sam is not good.

"I do not know how long Sidney will be out for", Hyypia told Sky Deutschland.

"But he immediately pointed out that there was something wrong, so I think it's bad.

"He has been really good for us in the past, so I very much hope that he'll be right back."

Sam has played in all 13 of Leverkusen's Bundesliga games so far this term, scoring seven goals and providing five assists.

Leverkusen are working to tie the winger to a new contract, with his current deal including a €2.5m summer release clause.
