Roma coach Rudi Garcia has thrown the question of whether Kevin Strootman could be sold to Manchester United into the court of Giallorossi president James Pallotta.

Strootman is still recovering from a cruciate knee ligament injury picked up in March this year and which forced him to miss the World Cup with the Netherlands.

He has still continually been linked with Manchester United however, with the club's boss Louis van Gaal a big fan.

Roma have continued to insist that Strootman is not for sale, but when tackled about the possibility after a 1-1 draw with Manchester City in the Champions League, Garcia admitted he is in the dark over the issue.

"Is Strootman for sale? You'll have to ask our president", Garcia was quoted as saying by Voetbal Primeur.

"But the intention of the club is very clear: Strootman is an important player for us and I hope he is available for the home game against City on 10th December, which is a crucial match."

Should Strootman be playing at full fitness by the match in December, it would represent perfect timing for the opening of the January transfer window, something sure to send speculation into meltdown.

Roma paid PSV Eindhoven around €20m to sign Strootman last summer.
