The 28-year-old goalkeeper has told Rennes that he wants to leave the club and take up the opportunity to join Premier League giants Chelsea.

Kepa Arrizabalaga has struggled to win Frank Lampard’s trust and he was again criticised in some quarters for his performance against Brighton.

Chelsea have tabled a bid worth €25m with Rennes for Mendy and the two clubs have continued to hold talks for the goalkeeper’s move to Stamford Bridge.

But an agreement has not been reached yet and, according to French radio station RMC, the two clubs are yet to agree on various aspects of the deal.

However, the negotiations have not stopped and they have continued to be in touch to work out an agreement.

And it has been claimed that there is optimism at both Chelsea and Rennes that a deal will be worked out soon.

Mendy has already agreed on a five-year contract with Chelsea and is waiting for the two clubs to agree on a deal.

The goalkeeper does not want to miss out on a move to one of the biggest clubs in the Premier League.
