The South Korea international joined RB Leipzig from their sister club in Austria, Red Bull Salzburg, for a fee in the region of £8m in the summer transfer window.
However, Hwang has struggled to get going in the German top flight, clocking just nine appearances across all competitions and scoring only once.
The 24-year-old also tested positive in November while on international duty and suffered prolonged side-effects, which kept him from breaking into Julian Naglesmann’s team.
Hwang is now determined to get back on track by securing regular playing time in the second half of the season and is set to move away from RB Leipzig on loan.
According to German daily Bild, the forward is edging closer to a loan move to a Premier League club.
West Ham are among the clubs interested in acquiring the services of the South Korean, but it is unclear who the player’s other suitors are.
The Hammers have been on the lookout for a new attacker following the sale of Sebastien Haller to Ajax earlier this month.
With Hwang available on loan, it remains to be seen if West Ham will take the opportunity and take the striker to London.
