The 24-year-old has been pushing for a move away from Celtic this month and has attracted interest from the Premier League and Europe.
He is one of the several midfielders Newcastle are considering signing on deadline day, but Marseille have a more concrete interest in the player.
According to French sports daily L’Equipe, French giants have tabled a loan offer with Celtic for Ntcham with an option to buy the midfielder for a fee of €5.5m.
But the bid is likely to be rejected as Marseille are some way away from what the Scottish champions want before agreeing to let the Frenchman go.
Celtic are prepared to lose Ntcham on deadline day but they want the purchase option to be set at the €9m mark.
The Frenchman still has 18 months left on his contract and Celtic do not want to lose the player unless it is on their terms.
It remains to be seen whether Marseille return with an improved offer for Ntcham in the remaining hours of the transfer window.
