The French defender is expected to be one of the most sought after defenders next summer when the transfer window swings open.

A €42m release clause in his contract will come into effect at the end of the season and major clubs are interested in adding him to the ranks.

A move to England has been mooted with Manchester United and Liverpool believed to be interested in the highly rated Upamecano.

But according to German magazine Sport Bild, Manchester United are no longer in the chase to sign the French defender in the summer.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer wants a centre-back for his squad ahead of next season and Upamecano was being closely tracked.

But the defender will not be joining the Red Devils at the end of the season, with the club looking at other targets at the moment.

There are suggestions that the Frenchman’s centre-back partner at RB Leipzig, Ibrahima Konate, is Manchester United’s top target now.

Bayern Munich have their eyes on the Upamecano as well and have already held talks with his representatives over a transfer.
