The 29-year-old, who has returned to Stamford Bridge following a season-long loan stint with Genoa, has entered the final year of his contract with Chelsea.

With only less than a year remaining on his contract, Chelsea are keen to sell Zappacosta during the ongoing transfer window as he is also not in Thomas Tuchel’s plans for the season.

Serie A club Fiorentina have identified Zappacosta as an ideal candidate to bolster their wing-back options and have been trying to sign him from Chelsea.

According to Italian daily Corriere dello Sport, La Viola now have an agreement in place with the Champions League holders to sign Zappacosta.

Fiorentina are edging closer to the signing of the Italian from Chelsea, with only the final details of the deal left to be ironed out.

Zappacosta has also attracted transfer interest from other Italian clubs such as Atalanta this summer, but Fiorentina appear to be winning the race for his signature.

The Serie A club will now be looking to iron out the final details of the transfer and bring in Zappacosta for a medical before finalising the deal.
