The midfielder opted to join Crystal Palace on a season-long loan from Chelsea in the summer despite interest from multiple suitors, including Leeds United, because boss Patrick Vieira gave him assurances that he would use his attacking talents.

Gallagher has been a fixture under Vieira this season and had a stellar outing at the weekend, scoring a goal and setting up another in their 2-0 win away at Manchester City.

Ex-top flight star Crooks is impressed with Gallagher’s performances for the Eagles and insists his price tag is rising with every passing game.

Crooks urged Crystal Palace to try to make Gallagher’s move permanent when the January transfer window swings open, with Vieira also being a firm admirer of his talents.

“The young Englishman is playing brilliantly at the moment and was outstanding at City”, Crooks wrote in his BBC Sport column.

“Currently on loan from Chelsea, manager Vieira has made it no secret he would like to buy the midfielder if he had the cash.

“Good try Patrick but pleading poverty won’t help the negotiations.

“Gallagher’s fee is going up with every game.

“Do the deal with Chelsea now, shake hands on it and fill in the paperwork in January.”

It remains to be seen whether Crystal Palace will sit at the negotiating table with Chelsea over Gallagher in the upcoming transfer window.
