The 21-year-old’s current deal with the League One side runs until next summer and has not put pen to paper to fresh terms, meaning he could be a free agent soon.

The Owls allowed Hunt to join National League side Grimsby Town on a short-term loan in the summer in a bid to speed his development.

The youngster has grabbed the opportunity with both hands, having featured in 16 of Grimsby’s 17 league games, scoring one goal from midfield.

Grimsby Town manager Paul Hurst has expressed his desire to extend Hunt’s stay until at least the end of the season, though any final decision with regards to his future is yet to be taken.

Meanwhile, clubs from both Premier League and Championship are keeping an eye on the situation and know that they can sign the player for next summer if a decision to extend his stay is not reached by then.

Clubs outside England on the other hand can approach the player from 1st January.

Hunt’s first choice though is believed to be to stay put at the club which he grew up supporting.

The midfielder has featured in 14 first-team games for his parent club since being promoted to senior level in 2018.
