The Magpies moved early in the transfer window and have added right-back Kieran Trippier and striker Chris Wood to their ranks as they look to get out of the relegation spots in the Premier League.

Newcastle boss Eddie Howe wants further additions to his squad in the shape of another striker, a midfielder and a new centre-back, which is a priority position for the club.

The Tyneside giants have a number of centre-backs on their transfer wish list but Sevilla man Carlos is their top target.

Newcastle have already seen the La Liga giants knock back two bids from them for the Brazilian but they are not planning to give up efforts to take him to St James’ Park.

And according to Spanish daily AS, Howe’s side have proposed a lucrative contract offer for Carlos, which will see the defender pocket three times the amount he is currently earning at Sevilla in wages.

Newcastle are claimed to be edging closer to sealing a deal for the Brazilian and an offer in the €50m range is tipped to be an amount Sevilla will find hard to turn down.

The Magpies have under two weeks to bring in more players but are understood to be looking to complete two new signings before they play Leeds United in the league at the weekend.
