The Dutch giants had an offer for Bergwijn rejected by Spurs earlier this month but did not give up hope of signing him and kept lines of communication open with Tottenham.

Ajax were still hoping to sign the Dutch attacker heading into transfer deadline day, but they have now been forced to give up on a swoop, according to Dutch daily De Telegraaf.

Spurs are unwilling to let Bergwijn go for less than €25m and Ajax are not prepared to pay such a fee to land him.

Antonio Conte is also in favour of keeping hold of the attacker and does not want him to depart north London this month.

Bergwijn has been given chances by Conte recently and has repaid the Italian with good performances and goals.

He will now stay at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium until at least the summer.

All eyes will be on whether Ajax go back in for Bergwijn in the summer transfer window.
