The striker spent the second half of last season on loan at Preston and scored seven times in 20 appearances for the Championship club.

He has more than three years left on his Aston Villa contract and there is serious interest in him this summer as well.

Several clubs in the Championship have their eyes on him due to his performances for Preston.

But it has been claimed that Rangers are also interested in taking him to Scotland in the ongoing transfer window.

Giovanni van Bronckhorst wants to add more goals to his squad this summer and Archer is a player they are looking at.

Rangers may be hoping that Steven Gerrard would be more open to letting the young striker move to Glasgow on loan.

But they are likely to face competition from clubs such as Middlesbrough and Watford for his signature.

Aston Villa are yet to take a call on whether to send Archer out this summer but they have received several approaches.
