Sport Republic, backed by Serbian billionaire Dragan Solak, acquired a controlling stake in Southampton in January of this year.

Now, the owners of Southampton are interested in expanding their footballing empire and have taken an interest in acquiring Goztepe.

The Turkish side were relegated from the top flight last time out and are looking to bounce straight back to the Super Lig this term.

It seems they can now bank on the support of the Southampton owners as Sport Republic have clinched the deal to buy a controlling stake in Goztepe, according to Turkish daily Yeni Asir.

Sport Republic will own 70 per cent of the shares of Goztepe, and the deal for the purchase is to become official shortly.

Apart from Goztepe, the Southampton owners are also in talks with French second tier side Valenciennes.

Time will tell as to how much interaction there is between Southampton and Goztepe, in terms of player transfers and loans.
