Isak has been Newcastle’s top attacking target all summer but negotiations stalled as they were unwilling to meet Real Sociedad’s price tag.

Newcastle felt Real Sociedad were asking for too much money and they were also not prepared to match the forward’s wage demands.

However, with little over a week left in the window, there has been a dramatic turnaround in the saga and the forward is now set to join Newcastle.

It has been claimed that the two clubs have now reached an agreement over a fee for the striker’s move to Newcastle.

The Magpies are said to have agreed on a club record fee of €70m and another €5m in potential add-ons.

However, the striker’s decision to agree to compromise on his wage demands has turned out to be a key factor.

The 22-year-old realised over the course of time he would not command more than a £120,000-a-week contract on Tyneside.

With a deal in place between the two clubs, Isak’s transfer to Newcastle is now only a matter of time.

Newcastle were struggling to bring in a forward all summer and finally agreed to dig deep into their pockets to land their top target.

Isak has already scored once in two league games this season and netted six times in La Liga in the 2021/22 campaign.
