The Toffees want to bring in more forward reinforcements before the window slams shut on 1st September as they seek to back Frank Lampard.
Everton are yet to replace Richarlison and are now expected to sell Anthony Gordon to Chelsea for a deal worth £60m in the coming days.
The Merseyside club have been tracking Brereton Diaz for a while and have now made an official approach to sign the forward.
Lampard is an admirer of the forward and has identified him as Everton’s priority target.
But Blackburn have made it clear to Everton that they would have to match their £15m asking price before next week’s deadline.
Everton are mindful about the way they want to spend the money they could get from Gordon’s sale.
However, the Championship club are certain that with several Premier League clubs interested in Brereton Diaz, they will get the fee they want.
Blackburn expect Leeds, who are also interested, to come in for Brereton Diaz before the window closes, while other Premier League sides could also bid.
The player though at present favours a move to Goodison Park.
