The Foxes’ only signing so far in the window is shot-stopper Alex Smithies, who they signed on a free transfer.
Leicester have already seen Kasper Schmeichel leave the club and could also see further departures with the likes of James Maddison, Youri Tielemans and Fofana linked with exits.
The Midlands club’s Premier League rivals Chelsea are keen on snapping up Fofana and have already failed with multiple bids for him, with the latest being as high as £70m.
Leicester want to keep hold of Fofana and are holding out for a bigger bid, and are expecting the Blues to return to the table with an improved offer, while the player is spending time out of the senior squad.
It has emerged that Leicester have identified Dortmund centre-back Akanji as a potential replacement in the event that Fofana is sold to the Londoners.
However, according to Swiss daily Blick, the chances of Leicester securing the services of Akanji from the Bundesliga giants are slim at present.
Leicester are currently unlikely to snap up Akanji and their chances of landing the Switzerland international are not going to improve in the coming days as well.
There is less than a week left in the window and it remains to be seen whether Leicester will pursue any alternative options to Akanji, should Fofana moves on to Stamford Bridge.
