Winks has fallen out of favour under current Spurs boss Antonio Conte, who prefers the midfield pairing of Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Rodrigo Bentancur.

Following the arrival of Yves Bissouma and the emergence of Oliver Skipp, Winks is being shown the exit door at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium after falling further down the pecking order.

Sampdoria have expressed interest in taking Winks to Italy and an agreement has been reached with Spurs over a loan.

Winks would prefer to ply his trade with another Premier League side but with no offers forthcoming, the Blucerchiati have reason to hope that their offer might get further consideration from the player, according to Italian outlet Il Secolo XIX.

The 26-year-old made 30 appearances in all competitions during the 2021/22 season, scoring once goal, laying on two assists and earning three cautions along the way.

A new meeting is set to take place between Spurs and Sampdoria to finalise the terms of the transfer, particularly the addition of any purchase options, the transfer fee, and the player’s salary.

Sampdoria continue to wait on an answer from Winks with a view to adding him to their squad this summer.

Tottenham are currently sitting in fourth place in the Premier League table, level on points with Manchester City, Leeds United and Brighton and two behind leaders Arsenal.
