Luiz’s current contract at Villa Park expires next summer and he is yet to commit to a new deal.

The Brazilian’s situation at Aston Villa has seen him attract strong interest from the Premier League, although the Midlands club want to keep him in their ranks.

Liverpool are keen on snapping up Luiz as they look to add more options to their midfield where they are dealing with injuries to several players, while they are closing in on a loan move for Arthur Melo from Juventus.

The Reds even approached the Lions over a deal for Luiz on Wednesday but they are facing strong competition for his signature from Arsenal.

Aston Villa have been expecting offers from Luiz’s potential suitors today and Arsenal have now tabled a bid for him.

The Gunners have made an opening worth £20m excluding bonus payments for Luiz to test Aston Villa’s resolve.

It remains to be seen whether Aston Villa will agree to sell a player they could lose for free next summer for the amount Arsenal are currently offering for him.
