The Lions could see one of their midfielders in Douglas Luiz leaving the club on deadline day and they have been looking for reinforcements in that position.

Aston Villa zeroed in on Wolves man Dendoncker, who has also drawn admiring glances from other Premier League clubs.

Everton already failed with a bid for the Wolves man while West Ham United have also been keen on him.

But Aston Villa are now set to win the race for Dendoncker with only hours left in the transfer window.

The Lions tabled a bid worth £13m for Dendoncker and Wolves have accepted their offer.

Bruno Lage’s side have granted the 27-year-old permission to take a medical ahead of joining Aston Villa before tonight’s transfer deadline.

Aston Villa now look to wrap up all the formalities of a move for Dendoncker as soon as possible with the clock ticking down on the window.
