Maatsen, 21, joined the youth ranks at Chelsea in 2019 but he has yet to make a senior appearance for the Blues.

Primarily a left-back, the Dutch talent can also play in the left-midfield position and he spent last season on loan at Burnley.

The versatile player was a crucial member of the Clarets’ promotion-winning squad last term and he also shone for Mauricio Pochettino’s side in the Blues’ pre-season friendlies this summer.

Maatsen is now subject to interest from West Ham and David Moyes’ side are keen on bringing in the Dutch talent on loan with an option-to-buy.

However, it is suggested that the Hammers have a chance to land the player permanently, with the Blues eyeing trimming their bloated squad.

Moyes’ side have agreed to a deal to sign Ajax star Edson Alvarez and are working hard to secure the services of James Ward-Prowse in their efforts to make some last-gasp signings.

The Hammers are eager to realign their ranks and Maatsen’s inclusion in their squad could boost the London side moving forward.

Now with the clock ticking down on the transfer window, it remains to be seen whether West Ham will be able to make a concrete offer to Chelsea for Maatsen in the coming days.
