Perkins, signed by Leeds from West Ham last summer, turned heads with the Whites’ Under-21s side last season and there were calls for him to be slotted into the first team.

Leeds signing Joel Piroe from Swansea City though has put a further roadblock in Perkins’ path.

And the Whites believe the best course of action would be for Perkins to head out on a loan spell to play on a regular basis.

He is dropping into the division below, with a switch to League One side Oxford United.

Perkins will spend the season on loan at Oxford United, where he will look to continue his development before returning to Elland Road.

Oxford United have had a bright start to the campaign, winning three of their first four League One fixtures.

They next play against Charlton Athletic, but whether Perkins can be registered in time for the game remains to be seen.
