Andy Gray has insisted that the next two or three weeks will show whether Aston Villa are the real deal in the Premier League this season.

Aston Villa went in 2-0 up at half-time at Old Trafford but Manchester United staged a rousing comeback in the second half to win the game 3-2 on Boxing Day.

After a terrific run of results that saw them beat Arsenal and Manchester City, Villa have failed to win in their last two games.

They dropped points against relegation candidates Sheffield United and allowed an out-of-form Manchester United to come back from two goals down and win the game.

Former Aston Villa attacker Gray insisted that good teams can have a few poor results but they find a way to respond.

He feels the next two or three weeks will end up showing whether Aston Villa have it in them to stay the course this season.

The former Villa striker said on beIN SPORTS: “I think the next two or three weeks are going to be key for Villa.

“Two poor performances for me – Sheffield United and tonight and they can’t have another.

“What I am saying is good teams can have a couple of iffy results but you immediately see a response from them.”

Aston Villa will be at home on Saturday when they host Vincent Kompany’s Burnley in a Premier League clash.
