Charlton Athletic are poised to beat another League One side to the signature of defender Macaulay Gillesphey, according to the Sunday Mirror.

The Addicks want to make additions in this month’s transfer window and the Plymouth Argyle defender has emerged as a target.

Gillesphey has played just four times in the Championship for Plymouth so far this season; he made 35 appearances in League One last term as Argyle won promotion.

Charlton now want his experience at the Valley and they are expected to snap him up.

Another unnamed League One side also want the 28-year-old defender, but he appears to be Charlton bound, leaving them missing out.

Charlton will hope to see Gillesphey hit the ground running in the second half of the season.

He played in both Charlton’s meetings with Plymouth in League One last term, giving the Addicks a good up close look at him.

Gillesphey has also played in Australia, due to a spell with Brisbane Roar.
