Frank Lampard has been sounded out with regards to the managerial vacancy at Birmingham City, according to the Daily Mail.

Birmingham are on the lookout for a new manager after axing Wayne Rooney this week following a horrendous run of form.

Blues are looking to sort out an appointment soon with the team sitting 20th in the Championship standings.

Tony Mowbray has impressed the club after initial talks, while Paul Heckingbottom and Gary Rowett remain on Blues’ radar.

And it has been claimed that even Lampard has been sounded out with regards to the Birmingham job.

The former Chelsea, Derby and Everton boss has been out of work since his interim time at Stamford Bridge came to an end last season.

He has had a few interviews since then over managerial vacancies and was in the fray for the Rangers job recently.

Lampard has had experience in the Championship where he guided Derby County to a playoff spot.

However, it is unclear whether he would be interested in managing a bottom-five Championship team if Birmingham offered him the job.
