Crystal Palace have started discussions to sign defender Luke Browne from Irish Premier division side Shelbourne FC, according to the Daily Mail.

A product of Shelbourne’s youth academy, Browne was on loan at last season at Wexford and clocked regular game time in the first division.

Though at Shelbourne he is yet to make his presence felt, his potential has been on view.

Crystal Palace scouts have taken notice of the defender, giving positive reports.

Now the Premier League club have entered into discussions with Shelbourne over the potential transfer of the player to England.

A move to Selhurst Park would be a huge step in the career of the 18-year-old defender.

It now remains to be seen how far the Eagles are willing to go to sign the young defender.

Browne has represented Republic of Ireland at Under-17 and Under-19 levels and would be expected to go straight into Crystal Palace’s youth academy.
