Richard Keys has insisted that he finds it strange that Jurgen Klopp has announced his decision to leave Liverpool in the summer in the middle of the ongoing season.

Liverpool and Klopp dropped a bombshell on Friday when it was announced that he will be leaving the Reds at the end of the season.

The German signed a new contract last year that was supposed to keep him at Anfield until the end of the 2025/26 campaign.

However, the 56-year-old conceded that he is feeling tired and running out of energy, which became a major part of his decision to move on from the Reds at the end of the season.

However, Keys stressed that mid-season announcements about managerial departures never really turn out to be as rosy as everyone anticipates it to be.

He feels that it is odd that Klopp announced it now in the middle of the season rather than wait.

Keys took to X and wrote: “Mid-season announcements about managerial departures don’t tend to end well.

“Klopp is going a year after I thought he would – but why make his intentions public now?

“Very odd.”

Klopp has won the Premier League and the Champions League at Anfield and his side are currently sitting at the top of the league table.
