Leeds United may let defender Leo Fuhr Hjelde go to Sunderland despite the fact they are promotion rivals, according to journalist Alan Nixon.

Sunderland boss Michael Beale is desperate for additions before the window closes as he looks to get his squad fighting fit for the promotion battle.

The Black Cats beat Stoke City 3-1 on Saturday to move to level on points with the final playoff spot.

Leeds defender Hjelde is now on Sunderland’s radar as a potential addition this month.

Sunderland would like to sign the Norwegian on a loan deal and it is claimed to be something Leeds may allow despite the Black Cats being promotion rivals.

Hjelde is well down the defensive pecking order at Leeds and is struggling to get a look-in under Daniel Farke.

The 20-year-old has made just three senior outings for Leeds so far this term, with one coming in the Championship.

He has had a prior loan spell away from Leeds before, spending time at Rotherham United.
