Sheffield United have decided to pull the plug on their move for Joe Worrall, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke, opening the door to Leeds United.

Leeds want to strengthen their defence and are interested in Nottingham Forest’s Worrall as an option.

However, they are not the only ones in the race for the centre-back’s signature, as Sheffield United are interested in him as well.

Nottingham Forest were initially only interested in a permanent move and slapped a £6m price tag on his head.

Leeds and Sheffield United found the Tricky Trees’ valuation too high for the defender, but now Nottingham Forest are willing to approve a loan move.

The Blades are interested in signing a defender and it has been suggested that they are closing in on Everton’s Mason Holgate.

That means that they will not be proceeding on a deal for Worrall.

As such, Leeds look to have a clear run at signing Worrall if they do want to loan him.

Nottingham Forest are desperate to get him off their books and Leeds will be determined to strike a loan deal for the defender before the window ends.
