Rangers have appealed the red card shown to defender Dujon Sterling during Tuesday’s 2-1 win over Aberdeen at Ibrox.

Sterling was sent off for what was judged to be a dangerous tackle in the latter stages of the Scottish Premiership encounter.

The incident was reviewed by VAR, but referee Don Robertson decided to stick with his initial decision and Sterling was off.

Rangers believe that the defender should not have been shown a red card and, according to journalist Chris Jack, have now appealed it.

There is expected to be a hearing into the appeal which will take place on Thursday.

Rangers will be hopeful that the red card will be overturned.

Sterling appeared to be visibly shocked to be sent off and waited on the side of the pitch hoping the VAR review would change the decision.

It remains to be seen whether Rangers will now be successful in getting the red card quashed.
