Former Scotland defender Willie Miller has stressed that the fervent atmosphere inside Ibrox suggests that the fans believe in the Rangers team that are playing good football under Philippe Clement.

The Rangers fans created a raucous atmosphere at Ibrox on Tuesday night and powered their team to a 2-1 win over Aberdeen.

The Glasgow giants are now level on points with Celtic at the top of the league table and have momentum behind them in the title race.

Miller conceded that he has not experienced this level of atmosphere at Ibrox for a while and it is what it used to be like to play Rangers away from home for opponents.

He insisted that the loud support of the home fans suggests that the Ibrox faithful do believe that they have a good team who are going to get even better.

Miller said on BBC Radio Scotland: “This is what Ibrox used to be like and it hasn’t been like this for a while.

“Any time I have come down anyway, normally when Aberdeen come and visit, the atmosphere wasn’t as electric as what it was tonight.

“I was quite surprised actually with how vociferous it was and there is that belief in the stands that this is a good team.

“And they are getting better.”

Rangers will hope to build on the momentum and also progress in the Scottish Cup when they take on Ayr on Saturday.
