Barry Ferguson has admitted that Rangers will now have to deal with a different kind of pressure after reaching the top of the Scottish Premiership table.

Celtic’s draw against Kilmarnock on Saturday meant that Rangers went top of the table when they beat St. Johnstone away from home a day later.

Philippe Clement’s side now have a two-point lead at the top of the Scottish Premiership standings and have momentum on their side going into the final months of the season.

Ferguson stressed the importance of Rangers not looking too far beyond the horizon at this stage of the season.

The former Rangers captain insisted that the pressure on the team will now be different as they are now the ones who are being chased and believes they will face an early test of their capabilities when they take on an in-form Hearts side on Saturday.

The Rangers legend said on the Go Radio Football Show: “They have got to keep their feet on the ground.

“They have got themselves in a brilliant place, but it’s hard getting there and now it’s a different kind of pressure getting into next week’s game.

“Hearts are flying high under Steven Naismith so it’s a different type of pressure they need to deal with.

“But I do believe that they have the capability to deal with it.”

Rangers could be five points clear at the top by the time Celtic take on Motherwell on Sunday.
