Former Ipswich Town star Sam Parkin has admitted that playing in the Championship for Ali Al-Hamadi is a bit of a leap for him, but feels he has done well in his cameo performances from the bench.

Kieran McKenna signed the forward from League Two side AFC Wimbledon towards the end of the January transfer window.

While fellow January buy Kieffer Moore has been playing a starring role since joining the club, Al-Hamadi has only been used from the bench and has scored once in five appearances.

He made his presence felt after he came on in Ipswich’s 4-3 win over Rotherham at Portman Road on Tuesday night and Parkin has been pleased to see his cameo performances.

The former Ipswich star conceded that coming from League Two into the Championship was always going to be tough but feels the striker has done well with the minutes he has received.

Parkin said on the What The EFL Podcast: “He is impressing.

“He is not getting the starts at the moment and it’s a bit of a leap for him.

“But to see him coming on and having an effect is excellent and could be important for them moving forward.”

Al-Hamadi will hope to get his first start soon as Ipswich chase back-to-back promotions this season.
