Bayer Leverkusen are remaining calm about contact from Liverpool with Xabi Alonso’s agent and are confident that the Spaniard will not leave at the end of the season.

Liverpool have identified Alonso as their top target as they seek to replace outgoing manager Jurgen Klopp at the end of the season.

The Reds have been in contact with the Spaniard’s agent to explore bringing their former midfielder back to Anfield this summer.

According to German magazine Sport Bild (via Fussball News), Leverkusen were made aware of the contact from the Merseyside giants for Alonso, but the German club are feeling no nerves at the moment.

It has been claimed that Leverkusen are remaining calm about the prospect of their manager leaving at the end of the season.

The German club remain confident that Alonso will ignore overtures from Liverpool and stay at Leverkusen.

There is talk of the Spaniard being very involved in planning for next season with the Leverkusen hierarchy.

It has been suggested that Alonso is just not satisfied with the prospect of winning the Bundesliga this season and wants to achieve even more with Leverkusen.

His side are currently eight points clear at the top of the league table and are favourites to end Bayern Munich’s 12-year grip on the Bundesliga title this term.

Bayern Munich are also interested in Alonso but for the moment, Leverkusen are convinced that he is not going anywhere at the end of the season.
