Mick Mills has admitted that he is still finding it hard to believe how well Ipswich Town have done this season as he stressed that the Championship’s standard is huge compared to League One, the division they were in last season.
Ipswich remained top of the Championship table on Easter Monday after they beat Southampton 3-2 in a thrilling game at Portman Road.
The Tractor Boys got promoted to the Championship last year and are in the race to earn back-to-back promotions this season to the Premier League.
Mills admitted that he has seen enough of Ipswich this season to believe that they deserve to be in the promotion race.
However, he conceded that he still cannot believe that they have managed to bridge the gap between League One and the Championship in such a short period.
The Ipswich legend said on BBC Radio Suffolk: “How we have come out this year and done what we have done, I really [can’t believe it].
“I have seen enough games to believe it but I still can’t believe it because this is a massive raise in standard.
“The Championship to League One in standard is absolutely massive and if we go up again it will be another big step but we aren’t worried about that one.”
Ipswich have a two-point lead over Leicester City in third, but the Foxes have played a game fewer than the current top two.
