Napoli have pulled out of the hunt for Torino defender Alessandro Buongiorno, who Tottenham Hotspur are keen on snapping up.

Buongiorno has caught the eye at Torino, clocking 26 appearances in Serie A and giving his Italian suitors a chance to have an up close look at him.

Tottenham are interested in taking the defender to the Premier League and have held initial talks to understand the fee they would need to pay to get him.

Spurs will not now need to reckon with competition from Italian giants Napoli.

Napoli have also been chasing Buongiorno, but according to Italian radio station Radio Kiss Kiss (via ArenaNapoli.it), the club have pulled out of the race.

They believe there will be an auction for Buongiorno and are focusing on other defenders instead.

Buongiorno picked up his first senior Italy cap last year and has now been capped three times by the Azzurri.

The Torino defender has picked up seven yellow cards this season in Serie A, being booked against Cagliari, Atalanta, Empoli, Genoa, Napoli and Udinese.

Torino want at least €40m for Buongiorno.
