Sheffield Wednesday are to pay around £3m to bring back striker Ike Ugbo on a permanent basis, according to journalist Darren Witcoop.

The Owls have been working on a deal to sign Ugbo from Troyes for several weeks, but of late faced serious competition from Sunderland.

A deal has been done with Troyes however and Ugbo is now poised to link up once again with Danny Rohl at Hillsborough.

Wednesday are forking out a significant sum to sign Ugbo on a permanent basis and will pay the French side a fee of around £3m.

That signals significant backing of Rohl following his heroics as boss last term.

Ugbo has been keen to return to Hillsborough, where he scored a vital seven goals on loan during the second half of last term.

Sheffield Wednesday will hope no more heroics are needed in the new season, with staying away from danger the aim.

Sunderland will now have to look elsewhere for the experienced striker they have been chasing this summer.
