Leeds United manager Daniel Farke has been impressed by the performances of summer signing Joe Rothwell but believes that there is still room for improvement

Rothwell, a summer loan signing from Bournemouth, has slotted into the Whites midfield amid an injury crisis which has seen Ethan Ampadu and Ilia Gruev ruled out.

The 29-year-old produced his first set piece contribution in the match against Sheffield United as it was from his corner that Pascal Struijk scored the home side’s first goal in the 2-0 win.

Farke was pleased with what he saw from the midfielder, but stressed not all was perfect from him and he still has much room to get better.

Analysing Rothwell’s service from set-pieces Farke said at a press conference: “Not each and every delivery was spot on I have to say.

“But of course, he is a different player and we know what he is capable of, in terms of going forward and playing the second pass or perhaps even the last pass.

“But also in terms of set-pieces, he also can be a goal threat

“He hasn’t shown this too much but he has had a few strikes and I think he can chip in with some goals and some assists and thank God he chipped in with a good assist [against Sheffield United].

“But also in terms of set-pieces, there is room for improvement. I think Joe played excellent in the last game

“But there were also one or two mistakes in his passing, one or two mistakes on the ball, one or two mistakes where he can be better with his deliveries, there is no doubt about that.”

Farke is also of the opinion that Rothwell has been proving his worth by playing the way he has been and is a joy to watch.

“There is always space for improvement. But overall we are all happy that we have him and he proves his worth at the moment and I think when he is on his game he is a joy to watch.”

Since signing for the club in July, Rothwell has featured in ten league games for the Whites.

He also played for them in the EFL Cup.
