Los Angeles Galaxy, with David Beckham leading the charge, suffered heartbreak in the MLS Cup final, losing a penalty shootout to Real Salt Lake last night.

Despite leading 1-0, the Galaxy conceded a goal in the 64th minute to rising MLS star Robbie Findley. The Real Salt Lake striker will have done his chances of a call-up to the senior United States side no harm with the strike.

Beckham’s men then proceeded to lose the final 5-4 on penalties. The England international though was not distraught and said he felt proud that LA Galaxy had got to the final in the first place. "It’s always tough losing," said Beckham, "but we can be proud of where we’ve come to. It’s not a nice way to lose."

With Beckham now due to head back to Europe to continue the season with AC Milan, rumours will be rife over whether this was his last ever game in MLS. The midfielder does however have an option that enables him to purchase MLS’s 20th team, once they enter the league.
