Real Madrid legend Zinedine Zidane insists under-fire duo Kaka and Karim Benzema will show their true quality as they continue to settle in the Spanish capital. The 37-year-old recounted his own experience of being criticised by the club’s faithful, after failing to immediately make an impact following his massive transfer from Juventus in 2001. Despite the pressure, he then went on to score the memorable decisive goal in the Champions League final to cap an impressive first season for Los Blancos.
Speaking to Spanish paper Marca, Zidane said, “As always people are critical here. That is the way it is. After two months I also went through the same thing and it will happen. They’re both talented players and talented players in Madrid must win.”
When asked about his thoughts of the recently concluded El Clasico, Zidane said, “The truth is, Madrid had a very good game. They lost, but they played well. They deserved, perhaps, something more.”
