Luciano Spalletti has been confirmed as the new manager of Zenit St. Petersburg after the former Roma manager signed a three-year-deal. The 50-year-old Italian replaces Anatoly Davydov, who took former manager Dick Advoacaat’s place on an interim basis.

"The board of directors has unanimously agreed to appoint Luciano Spalletti as head coach,"said a club statement. "The new head coach’s goal is to regain the domestic title, ensure success in European competitions and to establish a youth policy that leads to the emergence of new local players in the first team.”

Spalletti, the Italian coach of the year in 2006 and 2007, will be under immense pressure to exceed the achievements of Advocaat, who brought the club their first ever Russian league title in 2007, and won the UEFA Cup a year later.
