Cesc Fabregas’ match-winning 27-minute contribution in the match against Aston Villa may have some severe consequences, as the young captain could face an extended spell on the sidelines. Scan results will confirm how long the influential midfielder could be out, but manager Arsene Wenger is already weighing up the options of adding to his squad in January.

"In midfield we could become short if we lose players, it’s an area we cannot afford to lose players," said Wenger to The Telegraph. "I’ve said we will keep our eyes open. I will have to look maybe as well at midfielders and how big the damage is. At the moment I have not one name."

With Arsenal also lacking in the forward positions because of Robin van Persie’s season-ending injury, an acquisition of an attacker in the coming transfer window looks very likely.
