Leeds United have revealed that FA Cup hero Jermaine Beckford, has submitted a transfer request to the club. The 26-year-old forward has been in scintillating form for the League One side, something he emphasised by scoring the winner that dumped Manchester United out of the FA Cup.

"Leeds United can confirm that Jermaine Beckford has handed in a transfer request. The transfer request was handed in on December 30. By handing in a transfer request it clearly indicates that the player wants to leave Leeds United. However, that will only be allowed to happen in the event that it is decided to be in the best interests of Leeds United,” said a statement on the club’s official website.

Beckford, who handed in his transfer request days before his heroic performance at Old Trafford, has recently been heavily linked with a move to Championship leaders Newcastle.
