Reports in Italy have linked Lazio striker Mauro Zarate with a move to Arsenal, after the 22-year-old’s agent, Jose Alberti claimed he was speaking with the management of the Premier League side.

"I am in contact with Arsenal," Alberti stated to the Italian media. "A couple of days ago a leader of the English club asked me about him. Their intention is to succeed where Manchester City failed in the past year – that is to take Zarate back to the Premier League," he said. "Maybe this time they will succeed and from what I know Mauro is tired of the situation at Lazio."

The Gunners are currently lacking in the forward position due to injuries to Robin van Persie and Nicklas Bendtner, and have expressed desires to possibly add to the squad to address the issue. Zarate’s transfer could prove to be complicated however, with the North London side unlikely to meet the whopping €40M valuation placed on the young Argentinean.
