According to ESPN Soccernet, Birmingham City manager Alex McLeish, who has been given a highly-publicised £40M to spend in the January transfer window by new-owner Carson Yeung, has admitted two of his primary targets will not be plying their trade with the high-flying Blues.
"As regards Aiden McGeady (Celtic), we made an enquiry but we were told he is not for sale. The situation won’t change until someone says he is up for sale. Is there any movement with the Babel (Liverpool) situation? No, we’ve been told he is not for sale," McLeish said.
Birmingham have already signed Sporting Gijon’s Michel however, and are considering acquiring 21-year-old midfielder Giles Barnes, who was recently released by Derby County and is currently training with the club.
