Rafa Benitez has heaped praise on young Nathan Ecclestone, who signed a new contract with Liverpool this week. The 19-year-old striker is one of several youngsters who are breaking into the first-team this season, something the manager is hoping will continue to happen in the future.

"It is important for us to keep the young players we have now,” Benitez said to the club’s official website. “Eccleston is doing well and he played for the first team against Arsenal and Fulham. He is doing well with the reserves. He has quality but the main thing is he keeps working hard because with his talent he can be a player.”

Liverpool also boast of Emiliano Insua, and Nabil El Zhar who have both made positive impressions when called upon to first-team action by Benitez.
