The Europa League is now Liverpool’s only realistic shot at silverware this season, as they were dumped out of the FA Cup by Reading on Wednesday. To rub salt in the disappointment, influential duo Steven Gerrard and Fernando Torres didn’t feature in the second-half, both forced off with injury concerns.

The loss of the two will be a great blow to manager Rafael Benitez, who relies heavily on the pair’s devastating partnership. A knee injury to Yossi Benayoun also adds to the growing gloom at Anfield.

With Tom Hicks Jr’s resignation earlier in the week as well, Liverpool are in danger of spiraling into a serious crisis. The Reds are currently seventh in the Premier League, level on points with newly-promoted Birmingham, and are out of the Champions League, Carling Cup and FA Cup.
